Arrowhead Mills Organic Amaranth
Whole grain amaranth (a-mah-ran-th) is an ancient grain that is an excellent source of fiber. Being thousands of years old doesn't keep this grain from combining with other ingredients to create delicious flavorful soups, breads and even dressing.
Amaranth can be simmered like other grains and has a porridge-like texture. It can be combined with other grains if you desire a more "rice-like" dish. It can also be popped in a skillet like popcorn, which gives it a nutty flavor and crunchy texture.
Ingredients: Organic whole grain amaranth.
Arrowhead Mills was founded over 40 years ago in a tin roofed building in the Texas panhandle by Frank Ford. Frank believed synthetic pesticides and herbicides weakened crop varieties, broke down resistance to disease and pests, and ultimately, polluted the food chain. He put his life savings down on a tractor and set out to farm organically grown corn and wheat. With a stone mill he ground his harvest and delivered it to local stores from the back of his pick up truck. As word spread about organic farming, health stores from Boston to San Francisco began ordering stock from Arrowhead Mills.
Although the company has grown considerably, today Arrowhead Mills upholds the principles it was founded on, still purchasing many ingredients locally from original suppliers, and with a product line that is made with organic ingredients. As we explore areas of the company's development, we continue to market products that are true to our heritage and organic roots - from breakfast to dessert bringing deliciously wholesome choices from America's Heartland to your table.
