In 1976 Dave and Barb Barlean founded Barlean's Fishery on a 12-acre farm in rural Ferndale, Washington, minutes from the coast near the Canadian boarder. The beginning of a successful flaxseed oil business was established in 1989 by son- Bruce Barlean, who ventured to Germany to obtain an official endorsement from Dr. Johanna Budwig, the world authority on omega-3 oils.
