Botanical Interests Organic Sugar Pie PumpkinThere is no better cooking pumpkin than Sugar Pie! This is the pumpkin you want to grow if you are dreaming about marvelous pumpkin flavor with sweet, fine-grained texture for making pies, soups, muffins, casseroles, and many other delicious and nutritious dishes. Pumpkins are 6"-7" in diameter, grow on 8' sprawling vines, and store for several months after harvest. A recipe for Pumpkin Cheesecake is included inside the packet. This packet plants: 6 hills or 20 plants after thinning. When to plant outside: RECOMMENDED. Spring, 2-4 weeks after the average last frost date and when soil temperatures have risen above degrees. When to start inside: Not recommended except in very short season climates. 3-4 weeks before last frost. Sow in peat pots for direct planting. Special Germination Instructions: Seeding into a black plastic mulch is HIGHLY recommended because it keeps down weeds, traps moisture, and warms the soil. Floating row covers are highly recommended for pumpkins during the early days of their lives. Not only do they warm up the soil, but they also protect the young plants from squash vine borer and cucumber beetles. Plants will outgrow their vulnerability to these insects. When plants are young, keep area free of weeds. Plants will eventually shade out any weeds. Harvesting: Harvest before the first light frost (temperatures dipping to 28-33 degrees F). Pumpkins should be harvested when the foliage has begun to dry out. Cut off the pumpkin with a knife, leaving a 3"-4" stem. Do not hold the pumpkin by the stem. If the stem attachment area or any part of the pumpkin bruises, the pumpkin will rot in a few weeks. Cure them in a sunny window or porch at 75-80 degrees for 1-2 weeks before eating or storing.

Curtis and Judy met while waiting to interview for the same horticultural job and soon found they shared a boundless enthusiasm for gardening. Botanical Interests began out of their mutual passion and personal desire for better quality seed and more informational tools to help and inpire gardeners.
"We wanted a level of purity and quality that wasn't easy to find," recalls Curtis. So they searched out the highest quality seed available and began their business in 1997, in the spare bedroom of their Colorado home. The business objectives they established then still hold strong for them now: to inspire and educate gardeners; to provide high quality seed to their customers; and to create an enjoyable work place for employees.
Over the years, Judy and Curtis' family has grown along with their line of seeds which now attracts and pleases customers nationwide.
